Each Little Scar brings together the work of the late Patricia Ferguson, Northern Irish artist and printmaker. Dark scenes of shadows at the door, fear in eyes but strength instances. Here is proof of the enduring human spirit despite the incessant claustrophobia
of power and control. Patricia Ferguson’s pieces try to work through these emotions, depicting particularly women: women in vulnerable situations but not as vulnerable people.

“Because although they are difficult situations, I think all the time that what I’m seeing is very strong people, making, continuing their lives against incredible odds. And it’s something that I want to do, is actually show quite a lot of hope in the work that I make because I’m trying to show that strength that people have.”

The drawings and prints shown were made predominantly in the 80s, reflecting on The Troubles that Patricia - growing up in Newtownards, County Down Northern Ireland - was surrounded by. Patricia made images out of the world that she saw, connecting us to her figures through the shared emotions we can feel through the work: sorrow, grief, hope, devotion, absence, care and longing.
